Unbound Records: Arc
ARC is a curated collection of works by nine contemporary musicians with connections to the Circumpolar North. Each track offers a distinct musical perspective on place, connecting points across the North through rhythm and sound. The title, ‘ARC’ refers to the idea of a part of a circumference of a circle, with each artist representing a different location on the Arctic Circle. Each track offers a perspective, a portion of the circle, connecting points across the North through rhythm and sound.
‘Arc’ also refers to an electrical display between two points, as in the magnificence of the aurora borealis—a concept which is embodied in the die cut sleeve of the record. The design aims to serve as a reflection not only of the environment in which the content is created but also as a reflection of those who created it. Focusing on single aspect of the Norths shared experience, the Aurora Borealis, the vinyl pressing by Erika Records mixes vivid colors that peak through the jacket cover, teasing at the expressive artists featured on the compilation. The minimalist sleeve abstracts the arctic environment—represented by the iconic mountain, Denali—and provides a stark contrast to the color dancing above.
