This is Dena’ina Elnena

This series of Indigenous language installations honor and recognize the Dena’ina people, on whose lands the Anchorage Museum resides.

The challenge of this project was to demonstrate and define the Anchorage Museum’s role in expanding the dialogue of indigenous land acknowledgement within a museum environment, with the added complexity of delivering this message in an environment that is typically considered as representing colonial constructs. The tight kerning and strong vertical letterform draws audience focus down towards the land. The typographic portion of the project is an effort to convey a concise statement that is both overwhelming and pragmatic—reaffirming what has always been.
